A 59-year-old man was arrested on Thursday (Aug 20) night for allegedly stealing a lorry which was stopped along Jalan Bukit Merah.<\/p>\n
The incident happened at about 7.15pm on Thursday, the police said in a news release on Friday.<\/p>\n
Preliminary investigations revealed that the male lorry driver and his staff were unloading supplies from the lorry when the man approached him and complained that the lorry was obstructing his way.<\/p>\n
While boarding the lorry, the man allegedly pushed a staff who tried to stop him to the ground.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He then drove it away.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Central Police Division established the man’s identity through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras.<\/p>\n
He was arrested within six hours of the report being lodged and the stolen lorry was recovered.<\/p>\n
The 59-year-old will be charged in court on Saturday with the offence of theft of motor vehicle.<\/p>\n
If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to seven years and fined.<\/p>\n
