Over the years, Sennheiser\u2019s flagship-class Momentum True Wireless earbuds have gained a reputation for being the earbuds of choice for discerning listeners. It\u2019s been two years since the launch of the MTW4, and now, the wait for new earbuds is over, meet the new Momentum True Wireless 5.<\/p>\n
The German audio brand is taking a leaf out of its Momentum 5 Wireless headphones, and finally offering user-replaceable batteries<\/b> in both the earbuds and charging case. This is a notable move as hardly any true wireless earbuds offer such a feature \u2013 only the Fairbuds come to mind.<\/p>\n Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 in Denim.<\/p>\n Photo: Sennheiser<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n While we don\u2019t have any information yet on how the repair process goes aside from needing a \u201ccompact screwdriver\u201d, we have high hopes that it will be as easy as the battery replacement on the Momentum 5 Wireless.<\/p>\n Despite shifting to a user-replaceable battery, Sennheiser has managed to cram 12 hours<\/b> of battery life into the earbuds, with an additional two charges in the charging case for a total of 40 hours<\/b>. It\u2019s particularly impressive when you compare it to competitors like the Sony WF-1000XM6, Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro, and Apple AirPods Pro 3, which typically offer around 8 hours of battery life from a single charge.<\/p>\n Inside, the earbuds get Sennheiser\u2019s iconic 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transduce<\/b>r that\u2019s made in the Tullamore factory. There\u2019s support for AptX Adaptive up to 24-bit and 96 kHz, as well as AptX Lossless and Bluetooth 6.0 compatibility. If you have a Snapdragon Sound-compatible device, the earbuds will also support it.<\/p>\n Additionally, the earbuds get interactive head-tracking and are optimised for Dolby Atmos<\/b>, which is a nice upgrade from the Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds.<\/p>\n The hybrid adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) system has been reworked, with a dedicated four-microphone array paired with a redesigned ear tip. The new design looks sleeker and less bulky, which should result in extra wearing comfort for people with smaller ears. The charging case has also been redesigned to fit better into pockets, with a low-friction finish.<\/p>\n On paper, these look like they could give the likes of Apple and Sony a real fight, particularly in terms of battery life and repairability.
