SINGAPORE \u2013 A man who was\u00a0part of a syndicate\u00a0that operated two \u201cwarehouses\u201d<\/span><\/a> containing nearly 58,000 vape products was sentenced to 10 months\u2019 jail on Aug 19.<\/p>\n Nearly 17,000 of the products were vaporisers. One of the rented \u201cwarehouses\u201d was a terraced house in Lentor, and\u00a0the other was a condominium unit in the Canberra area in Sembawang.<\/p>\n Roy Tan Jun Jie, 34, was also fined $45,000 \u2013 the same amount he had earned while working for the group. He has to spend another six weeks behind bars if he fails to pay the fine.<\/p>\n Tan was the first person from the group to admit being involved with the syndicate.<\/p>\n Before handing down the sentence, Deputy Principal District Judge Kessler Soh noted Tan was not the leader of the syndicate.<\/p>\n Tan was an area distributor and occupied the lowest rung of the three-tiered syndicate. He had pleaded guilty on Aug 6<\/span><\/a> to being one of its members.<\/p>\n He also pleaded guilty to one count of being in possession of 31 vaporisers meant for sale.<\/p>\n In earlier proceedings, the court heard the group delivered up to 210\u00a0orders\u00a0of vaporisers and components daily. There were 13 other people in the group, whose cases are pending.<\/p>\n Three of them \u2013 Wong Ee Wei, 29, Tey Ler Wei, 30, and Kenneth Tan Hong Chang, 31 \u2013 were alleged to be the local syndicate leaders.<\/p>\n Court documents stated they took instructions from a\u00a0person known only as \u201cNobody\u201d, purportedly based in Malaysia.<\/p>\n Among other things, the local syndicate leaders managed the \u201cwarehouses\u201d and the group\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n In October 2024, an unnamed friend introduced Roy Tan to a delivery job.<\/p>\n The prosecution said Roy Tan was then introduced to Adrian Chia Hong Qing, 33, one of the local distributors in the group.<\/p>\n Their duties included meeting the area distributors to hand them the orders for the day and collect earnings.<\/p>\n The DPPs said each area distributor was assigned a specific area to make their deliveries and receive payments.<\/p>\n Each area distributor delivered between 15 and 30 orders a day, earning $10 for every successful delivery.<\/p>\n Roy Tan used his car to make deliveries.
