A netizen advocating for the wellbeing of guide dogs during the National Day Parade fireworks display said she was verbally harassed online.<\/p>\n
The Facebook user, Kay Lin, posted on Complaint Singapore Unrestricted on Monday (Aug 17) about how a man allegedly sent her a private message and called her a “f***ing slut”.<\/p>\n
She alleged that the man was also a member of the Dogs Singapore Facebook group and that the message was sent in response to her advocacy regarding the welfare of guide dogs participating in this year’s National Day Parade.<\/p>\n
A screenshot shared by Kay Lin appeared to show a message containing insults directed at her, including calling her a “waste of oxygen”.<\/p>\n
“No wonder no guy want you. F***ing slut like you should just end your life,” the message stated.<\/p>\n
Kay Lin responded to the man’s message in a Facebook post, outlining what she described as the potential effects of loud fireworks on guide dogs.<\/p>\n
“Just [because] guide dogs look calm, [it] doesn\u2019t mean they aren\u2019t suffering in silence [during] fireworks,” she wrote.<\/p>\n
Kay Lin’s post is part of a broader ongoing conversation about the guide dogs present during this year’s National Day Parade<\/a>.<\/p>\n Thomas, who was representing the Singapore National Paralympic Council, was accompanied by a guide dog named Eve, while Lee Lee from the inaugural civilian contingent<\/a> for the Singapore Disability Sports Council was joined by her guide dog, Hesta.<\/p>\n It was the first time guide dogs were participating in the National Day Parade.<\/p>\n However, some animal advocates have raised concerns about the potential impact of the fireworks display on the dogs.<\/p>\n “Some of you assume guide dogs are trained that\u2019s why they somehow can override their biological keenness in hearing,” wrote Kay Lin.\u00a0<\/p>\n She added that dogs can be overwhelmed by loud noises despite their training.<\/p>\n PetMD states that up to 50 per cent of dogs may be affected by noise phobias, which can cause them to panic or react strongly to certain sounds.<\/p>\n According to PetMD, dogs with this condition can be triggered by common noises including thunderstorms, alarms and even vacuum cleaners.<\/p>\n Animal behaviourist Chong Qi Ai of Pet Coach Singapore also told The Straits Times that there have been incidents of dogs becoming startled and bolting from their leash after being frightened by sudden loud noises.<\/p>\n AsiaOne has contacted Kay Lin and the man who allegedly sent the message for comment.<\/p>\n [[nid:742890]]<\/p>\n laili.abdeen@asiaone.com<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A netizen advocating for the wellbeing of guide dogs during the National Day Parade fireworks display said she was verbally harassed online.
