Standing on the ferry as it waits to dock on the Greek island of Ithaca, Giorgia Ongarato is only too keen to talk about the Odyssey<\/em> \u2013 the epic poem about a hero battling his way back home from the Trojan War that inspired Christopher Nolan\u2019s blockbuster film<\/span>.<\/div>\n

The Italian lawyer says it was her dream to come to Ithaca, widely believed to be the same island as the home of Odysseus in the poem.<\/p>\n

Dressed in a T-shirt emblazoned with \u201codyssey\u201d in ancient Greek alongside a line from the poem, she enthuses: \u201cI studied Greek when I was a child, and I studied the Odyssey<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 50-year-old is also a fan of Nolan\u2019s film, describing it as \u201cwonderful\u201d.<\/p>\n

The island\u2019s businesses and officials now expect the film to inspire many more to follow in her footsteps. They are not alone.<\/p>\n

The tiny Italian Mediterranean island of Favignana off Sicily\u2019s western coast \u2013 which stands in for Ithaca in Nolan\u2019s blockbuster \u2013 also hopes to attract more visitors but wants to avoid falling into the trap of overtourism. The largest of the Egadi Islands, Favignana is home to around 3,000 people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
