Back in June 2023, Revolut launched<\/a> Ultra<\/strong> in Europe and the UK, its top-tier membership that stacks additional lifestyle and travel benefits on top of Revolut\u2019s core functions, such as better FX rates and fee-free ATM withdrawals.<\/p>\n

Three years later, it looks like Ultra is being readied for launch in Singapore. While there\u2019s no official announcement yet,\u00a0new FAQs<\/a> and T&Cs<\/a> have been uploaded to the Revolut Singapore website, and the Revolut app is already accepting applications for Ultra.<\/p>\n

At S$899 a year<\/strong>, this will be the most expensive debit card in Singapore by far, but with perks like unlimited lounge access, complimentary data roaming, subscriptions to ChatGPT, Financial Times, Foodpanda, NordVPN and ClassPass\/WeWork credits, it\u2019s certainly able to give premium credit cards a run for their money.<\/p>\n

Overview: Revolut Ultra<\/h2>\n

The platinum-plated Revolut Ultra sits at the pinnacle of Revolut\u2019s four-tier hierarchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Like all tiers, Ultra customers can choose between a monthly or annual subscription.<\/strong> The monthly plan costs S$1,053<\/strong> in the first year (thanks to the introductory discount for the first three months), and S$1,080<\/strong> thereafter, so the S$899<\/strong> annual plan offers significant savings.<\/p>\n

This is an interesting price point, as it places the Revolut Ultra between the S$120K and S$200K card segments \u2014 more expensive than a DBS Vantage<\/a> (S$599.50) or Citi Prestige<\/a> (S$651.82), but not as pricey as a StanChart Beyond Card<\/a> (S$1,635) or AMEX Platinum Charge<\/a> (S$1,712). This is worth keeping in mind, because it helps calibrate our expectations regarding benefits.<\/p>\n

The option of monthly fees also gives the Revolut Ultra a key advantage over traditional credit cards, in the sense that you can subscribe when you need the benefits, and downgrade when you don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

A one-month early cancellation fee (S$89.99) applies if you cancel within the first six months. There is no fee if you cancel after six months.<\/span><\/p>\n

In case you were thinking of pulling a fast one by getting an Ultra, using its lounge benefits and cancelling within the 14-day free look period, think again \u2014 you\u2019ll be charged for the lounge visits you use during this period.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Ultra cardholders also enjoy the highest interest with Flexible Accounts (up to 3.86% APY) and lowest exchange fees for crypto (0.49%), if that sort of thing interests you.<\/p>\n

1.5% cashback (capped)<\/h3>\n

Revolut Ultra cardholders earn 1.5% cashback<\/strong> on all spending, capped at S$19.99 per calendar month (equivalent to S$1,332 of spending). The usual reward exclusions apply, such as charitable donations, education, insurance premiums, government services and utilities bills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t very competitive for local spending, given that other cashback cards offer 1.6-2%<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0but you probably won\u2019t be using the Revolut as your daily driver in Singapore anyway.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s significantly better for overseas spend, though it shouldn\u2019t be a primary motivation for getting an Ultra, given that the cheaper Metal (S$219) and several fee-free cards offer the same 1.5% cashback.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, RevPoints<\/a> haven\u2019t made their way to Singapore yet, so there\u2019s no option to earn miles with the Revolut.<\/p>\n

Unlimited airport lounge access<\/h3>\n

Revolut Ultra cardholders enjoy unlimited access to LoungeKey lounges<\/a>, restaurants and airport experiences worldwide\u00a0(LoungeKey and Priority Pass are basically the same). There is no guest allowance, and cardholders are limited to one visit utilisation per two-hour period.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s worth noting that unlimited lounge access has largely disappeared from the S$120K segment \u2014 only the OCBC VOYAGE still offers it, and rumour has it that may soon change. Therefore, if this is a perk you value, and you don\u2019t want to go into four-digit territory with the StanChart Beyond Card or AMEX Platinum Charge<\/a>, the Revolut Ultra would be the next best alternative.<\/p>\n

Unlimited airport fast track<\/h3>\n

Revolut Ultra cardholders enjoy a complimentary DragonPass airport fast track pass<\/a> whenever they\u00a0purchase their flight with their Revolut card.<\/p>\n

How useful this is really boils down to where you\u2019re travelling, and whether you have any \u201cpreferred traveller\u201d privileges like the\u00a0APEC Business Travel Card.<\/a> Some airports you can basically waltz through, others can be Kafkaesque nightmares.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also need to factor in the opportunity cost of buying your flight ticket with the Revolut Ultra, compared to a miles card<\/a> that could earn up to 4 mpd (capped) or 3 mpd (uncapped). Remember, the Revolut Ultra\u2019s 1.5% cashback is capped at S$1,332 per month, so it\u2019s not an ideal choice for big ticket purchases.<\/p>\n

Monthly 5GB roaming data<\/h3>\n

Revolut Ultra cardholders receive an eSIM with 5GB of roaming data<\/strong> each month, which can be used in more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a useful perk for sure, though keep in mind that roaming data has become cheap and plentiful these days, and your local mobile plan might offer it anyway.<\/p>\n
