Samsung has unveiled a new 200MP smartphone camera sensor<\/b> that introduces a new technology designed to capture more light, reduce image noise and improve HDR performance.<\/p>\n
The 1\/1.3-inch ISOCELL HPC is the first mobile image sensor to feature DeepPix<\/b>, a new pixel architecture designed to improve the amount of light information each pixel can capture. Samsung says it increases the pixel\u2019s light-handling capacity by 60%<\/b> compared with the previous generation. This allows the sensor to preserve more detail in bright areas without losing information in the shadows, while also reducing image noise.<\/p>\n
The ISOCELL HPC improves light efficiency through a high-precision microlens<\/b> that directs more light onto each pixel, while a high-transmittance coating minimises light reflection and scattering. The result should be photos with a wider dynamic range, particularly in challenging lighting conditions such as backlit scenes.<\/p>\n
The sensor also supports single-frame 16-bit HDR<\/b>, which Samsung says can deliver up to four times richer colour expression than conventional HDR. Unlike traditional HDR approaches that combine multiple exposures, single-frame HDR can capture different levels of brightness in a scene in a single shot, potentially reducing issues such as ghosting when subjects move.<\/p>\n The use of High Precision Microlens (High-P) enables the Samsung ISOCELL HPC to gather and focus more light onto each photodiode. The ISOCELL HPC supports single-frame HDR at 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x and 4x in-sensor zoom<\/b>, allowing the camera to maintain HDR performance as you zoom in.<\/p>\n For video, the ISOCELL HPC supports 4K recording at up to 180fps<\/b>, compared with the 120fps limit on some previous Samsung 200MP sensors.
