\nSingapore will close 11 hawker centers for between one and three days over the next two weeks, starting from Aug. 17 for scheduled cleaning to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.\t<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said the regular cleaning exercises are carried out to ensure that Singaporeans can continue to enjoy affordable food in a clean and hygienic environment, AsiaOne<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n

The 11 hawker centers include popular dining destinations for foreign tourists, such as Chinatown Complex Market, Pasir Panjang Food Centre, Pasir Ris Hawker Centre and Zion Riverside Food Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

There are 123 markets and hawker centers in Singapore, ranked the world\u2019s second-richest country by GDP per capita in 2025 after Switzerland by the Economist<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hawker centers are an intrinsic part of Singaporean culture, acting as affordable and communal dining spaces for diverse cuisines and serving as a cornerstone of the nation’s identity, which is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

These large, often open-air complexes house numerous stalls that offer local and international dishes.<\/p>\n

Singapore was recently named one of world’s 20 best street food cities by British magazine Time Out<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
