The town is dark and silent as we cast our lines ashore and secure the boat.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">As soon as the lines are made, we fall into our bunks, exhausted after a three-day voyage north through the Sea of Japan, or East Sea.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">We plan to rest for 24 hours and then carry on towards Hokkaido, Japan\u2019s main northern island, to escape the summer heat and typhoons of the country\u2019s southern waters.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">After several hours of sleep, we walk into the town of Ogi in search of a late breakfast, stopping at Origine, a tiny six-seat restaurant where all is quiet, with no chef or customers in sight.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-d3pq8q e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-bjn8wh e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The port town of Ogi, in the south of Sado Island. Fresh croissants after days of stodgy on-board meals are too much to pass up, so we sit down and wait, given hope by the fact that the kitchen counter shows signs of recent activity: used mixing bowls and cutting boards, ingredients chopped and ready for the stove.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Fifteen minutes later, just as we are about to leave, the chef steps inside from the street, surprised to see he has customers.
