The company’s Hearing Aid feature has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), allowing selected Galaxy Buds to double as an over-the-counter hearing aid for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss.

Rather than requiring a separate app or a trip to the clinic, users of the earbuds can take a five-minute Hearing Test from the Galaxy Buds menu within their phone’s Settings. The test plays a series of tones to each ear before producing an audiogram and classifying the user’s hearing as normal, mild, moderate, severe or profound. Samsung says the test is registered as Software as a Medical Device and can produce results comparable in accuracy to an audiologist’s evaluation.

Based on those results, the Hearing Aid feature amplifies the sounds that a user has trouble hearing, including higher frequencies, quieter speech and voices from further away. Noise reduction and beamforming are also used to focus on voices in front of the listener while cutting down some of the background noise. Samsung is using NAL-NL2, a clinical fitting formula also used for prescription hearing aids, to personalise the output.

The catch, at least for now, is that the feature works only with the Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Galaxy Buds4 Pro, paired with a compatible Galaxy device running One UI 8 or later. Samsung plans to roll it out in the US and selected approved markets in the fourth quarter of 2026, but has yet to confirm if Singapore will be included.

Wireless earbuds have picked up all sorts of features over the years, from active noise cancellation to live translation, but Samsung’s Galaxy Buds are now…

[32
11206,28147,16679,4171,1672,8650,225
post-76115","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech-gadgets-reviews","tag-aids","tag-buds3","tag-buds4","tag-double","tag-galaxy","tag-hearing","tag-pro","wpcat-32-id
["GET
