{"id":76057,"date":"2026-08-12T23:04:01","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T15:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=76057"},"modified":"2026-08-12T23:04:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T15:04:01","slug":"group-draws-flak-for-blocking-sembawang-park-path-with-badminton-net-bearing-singapore-flag-disgraceful-singapore-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=76057","title":{"rendered":"Group draws flak for blocking Sembawang Park path with badminton net bearing Singapore flag: &#8216;Disgraceful&#8217;, Singapore News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A group of people have drawn criticism online for setting up a badminton net across a public walkway at Sembawang Park, obstructing pedestrians using the path.<\/p>\n<p>In a photo shared on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 9), five people in red shirts are seen gathered along the walkway, with the net having a Singapore flag on display.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Several folding chairs and badminton bags could also be seen around the setup.<\/p>\n<p><span>An eyewitness claimed the incident took place on the morning of National Day, and there were about 10 people involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The incident garnered mixed reactions online, with some netizens criticising the group&#8217;s actions while others argued that pedestrians could opt for alternative routes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One commenter said that celebrating National Day with friends and enjoying a game of badminton was perfectly reasonable, but public spaces should remain accessible to everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A walkway is meant for people to pass through, so setting up a net across it without considering pedestrians is understandably frustrating,&#8221; said one Facebook user.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Others took a more relaxed view of the incident, noting that the park is a shared space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think you must have been there the first time. There are a few routes \u2014 why can&#8217;t you simply walk around them?&#8221; the commenter wrote.<\/p>\n<h2>Should Singapore flag be on net?<\/h2>\n<p>Some netizens also questioned the display of the state flag on the badminton net, with one describing it as inappropriate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unauthorised display of the national flag and blockage of walkway.
