A customer was left feeling uneasy after allegedly finding a cockroach in sushi bought from Don Don Donki’s Orchard Central outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n Sharing the incident on social media on Thursday (Aug 6), the customer said she felt nauseous after noticing it.<\/span><\/p>\n A photo accompanying the post also shows what appears to be a baby cockroach in the sushi.<\/p>\n In a screenshot of a response from Don Don Donki shared by the customer, the chain apologised for the incident and said a detailed investigation with its professional pest control supplier was ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n Immediate inspection and thorough cleaning of equipment in the food preparation area, including deep cleaning of relevant sushi-making equipment, were conducted, the firm said.<\/span><\/p>\n “Furthermore, we have enhanced our inspection procedures before food preparation and reminded the team to be more vigilant when preparing food,” the message read.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As an apology, the chain offered the customer a full refund for the meal and a $50 voucher, which could be collected from its Orchard Central outlet by contacting the duty manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n The chain also reiterated its commitment to maintaining high food safety and hygiene standards.<\/span><\/p>\n “Please rest assured that we take food safety, hygiene, and quality very seriously. The presence of a cockroach in sushi rice is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards we strive to maintain.”<\/p>\n Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it is aware of the incident and is looking into the matter.\u00a0<\/p>\n The agency added that as part of its enquiry and evidence-gathering process, it may engage the person who provided the feedback for more details, and would not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence was obtained.<\/p>\n “Food safety is a joint responsibility.
