{"id":75436,"date":"2026-08-10T16:16:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=75436"},"modified":"2026-08-10T16:16:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T08:16:00","slug":"restaurant-apologises-for-cooking-seafood-foraged-from-changi-beach-singapore-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=75436","title":{"rendered":"Restaurant apologises for cooking seafood foraged from Changi Beach, Singapore News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A restaurant involved in preparing and cooking seafood foraged from Changi Beach has apologised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Saturday (Aug 8), Havelock Palace said it had confirmed the incident following an internal review and apologised for its involvement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We acknowledge that accepting and handling ingredients outside our approved sourcing channels did not meet the standards we expect of ourselves as a food establishment,&#8221; said the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>Havelock Palace said it has since tightened its procedures, including its food sourcing and receiving controls, as well as supplier documentation and traceability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>It has also prohibited food from unauthorised or unverified sources, saying that it would conduct refresher training for its management and kitchen teams on food safety and proper food handling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>&#8220;We also recognise that some of our earlier responses online did not clearly explain the situation and may have caused further confusion. We apologise for this,&#8221; it said, adding that it remains committed to upholding high standards of food safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>The apology comes after a video reposted on Facebook on July 13 showed a group foraging for marine life at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/nparks-changi-marine-wildlife-foraging-criticism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Changi Beach<\/span><\/a><span> before taking their catch to a restaurant to be cooked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>In the video, the group can be seen collecting large amounts of crab, shellfish among others in buckets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, Pasir Ris-Changi GRC MP Valerie Lee took to Facebook to voice her disappointment over the group&#8217;s actions, calling the behaviour &#8220;deplorable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not just about whether something is legal or not.
