{"id":75388,"date":"2026-08-10T11:28:48","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T03:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=75388"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:28:48","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T03:28:48","slug":"energy-saving-building-cooling-alternatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=75388","title":{"rendered":"Energy saving building cooling alternatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->Hotter days on the horizon are set to stretch demand for cooling indoors. <!-- -->Air<!-- -->-conditioning is an energy guzzler <!-- -->that<!-- --> contributes to global warming when it emits planet-warming refrigerants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Cooling alone accounts for 40 per cent to 60 per cent of a commercial building\u2019s total energy use in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Nearly 50 buildings in Singapore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/environment\/two-thirds-of-buildings-in-spore-are-now-green-on-track-to-meet-targets-set-for-2030?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">have adopted alternative cooling methods that safeguard workers\u2019 comfort<\/span><\/a> while reducing energy use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Alternative cooling technologies that do not <!-- -->rely solely on air-conditioning<!-- --> can reduce a building\u2019s energy <!-- -->use<!-- --> for cooling by up to 48 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">These are a few technologies:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"font-primary-headline-md-semibold\" data-testid=\"article-subhead-test-id\">1. Heat naturally moves from warmer objects to cooler surfaces. This method is called passive displacement cooling, which involves leveraging the natural rise of warm air.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Cooling coils near the ceiling will cool the warm <!-- -->air<!-- -->, which then sinks to the floor. This creates a continuous cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This marks the first time such cooling technology is being tested for a retail environment in Singapore.
