This exchange between Senior Minister of State for Education Janil Puthucheary and Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim came about after Puthucheary said that the education ministry’s investigation into reports of discrepancies during the O-Level English Language oral examination on Jul. 15 revealed no evidence of system malfunction. 173 candidates reported discrepancies on the day of the examination. That number rose to 432 over the next few days, out of nearly 5,000 candidates who took the examination. Puthucheary noted that SEAB ran cybersecurity checks and checked digital logs of the prompt and video that each candidate accessed. He also stressed that candidates’ recollections of the text prompt varied significantly across those who reported a discrepancy. \u201cPutting together the technical details, the distribution pattern of the incidents across the stations, schools and time, as well as the variety of phrases reported by the students, SEAB has concluded that the cause for these incidents was not technical in nature nor the result of a deliberate or malicious act,\u201d he said. mothershipparliament<\/p>\n
