Hong Kong rockers Candy Lo Hau-yam and Sammy So Ho-choy have both lived the classic rock star existence: late nights in smoke-filled band rooms, heavy drinking and a diet dictated by irregular hours.<\/p>\n

Today, the happily married couple are better known for an entirely different pursuit: their shared love of long-distance running.<\/p>\n

Both started out in the indie rock scene: Lo, 51, debuted as a singer in 1998, while So, 47, rose to fame in 2005 as the lead vocalist of pop-rock group Kolor<\/span>. But behind their public success, they both faced severe mental and physical tolls. By 2010, the two had been diagnosed with anxiety and depression<\/span>.<\/div>\n

For Lo, much of her psychological stress stemmed from Hong Kong\u2019s relentless tabloid gossip fixation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the 2000s, paparazzi culture was all the rage. Going out to eat or visiting a friend\u2019s house felt like I was on the run. We couldn\u2019t enter places through main entrances and had to sneak through car parks or service doors. We were under quite a lot of pressure,\u201d she tells the South China Morning Post.<\/p>\n

Compounding her stress was a thyroid condition that caused hand tremors, insomnia<\/span> and extreme weight loss. At her lowest, Lo, who stands 160cm (5ft 3 inches) tall, weighed under 50kg (110lbs).<\/div>\n
