A video comparing how Singaporeans and Koreans excuse themselves to use the toilet<\/a> has left many netizens wondering: Are Singaporeans simply too honest?<\/p>\n On July 31, Singaporean TikTok user @ariyakult shared a video recalling what she described as her \u201cbiggest culture shock\u201d<\/a> when talking to her South Korean<\/a> friends.<\/p>\n In the clip, @ariyakult recounted casually telling them: \u201cOh, I gotta go pee\u201d.<\/p>\n She said they reacted with disbelief and disgust, telling her that it was \u201ctoo much information\u201d (TMI).<\/p>\n Her Korean friends then asked whether Singaporeans actually tell each other they \u201cgotta pee\u201d, to which she replied that they do \u2014 and can sometimes be even more blunt.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018Yeah, we tell each other like, oh we gotta go shit and stuff,\u2019\u201d she said, leaving her Korean friends stunned.<\/p>\n \u201cApologies to my \uce5c\uad6cs (friends) but no matter the race, language or religion in SG… we always gotta say we need to pee!\u201d she wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n The video has garnered more than 650,000 views, 101,600 likes and 850 comments.<\/p>\n Many Singaporean netizens found the comparison relatable.<\/p>\n One user wrote: \u201cI\u2019m telling people that I gotta go piss, shit, fart, and everything\u201d.<\/p>\n Others pointed out that Singaporeans are not the only ones who speak so openly.<\/p>\n One user from the United States commented: \u201cI\u2019m in the States and I\u2019ll straight up say \u2018I\u2019m about to destroy this toilet, I\u2019ll be back\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n However, some netizens felt Singaporeans were too direct when talking about going to the toilet.<\/p>\n One commenter, who said they had lived in both Singapore and Korea, wrote that Singaporeans announcing exactly what they were about to do was \u201cjust too much\u201d, adding that in many countries people would simply say they were going to the toilet.<\/p>\n Others were curious about Korean social norms.<\/p>\n \u201cSo do they just stand up and leave when they have to go pee while with other people?\u201d One user asked. \u201cThat seems so awkward.\u201d<\/p>\n Another wondered how close friends in Korea navigate such situations, \u201cI can understand if y\u2019all aren\u2019t close but… if you guys are friends, how do friends have deep conversations in Korea?\u201d<\/p>\n Stomp has reached out to ariyakult for comment.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
