For JBL’s new Summit Everest, the answer is S$199,000 – enough to buy a car or the downpayment for a nice condominium. And if that is a little too much, there is always the Summit K2 at a slightly more “approachable” S$139,000 a pair.

Both loudspeakers are now available in Singapore exclusively through Sound Gallery by IMS, following their world debut at HIGH END Vienna 2026 and subsequent Asia-Pacific unveiling at StereoNET Asia 2026. They sit at the top of JBL’s five-model Summit Series, above the Summit Makalu, Pumori and Ama, although the eye-watering prices begin to make a little more sense once you consider their history.

You see, the Summit Series is only the fifth loudspeaker family in JBL’s 80-year history to carry its “Project” designation. The name was first used for Project Hartsfield in 1954 and later appeared on Project Paragon, Project Everest and Project K2. JBL reserves it for the occasions when it believes it has made a meaningful leap in acoustic engineering, rather than simply giving an existing speaker a new finish and calling it a day.

The Summit Everest is the larger and more spec-ed out of the two. Its 3.5-way design combines three 2-inch compression drivers with a three-into-one expansion manifold and a large Sonoglass horn. Two 10-inch mid-bass drivers and a pair of enormous 15-inch woofers handle the lower frequencies, giving it a claimed range of 20Hz to beyond 23kHz.

JBL Summit K2

Photo: JBL

The three-way Summit K2 scales things down – relatively speaking, of course – with three 1.5-inch compression drivers, one 10-inch mid-bass driver and a single 15-inch woofer. Both speakers also use JBL’s MultiCap crossover network and support everything from a conventional single-wire connection to bi-amp and tri-amp configurations.

Naturally, JBL has not stopped at the drivers. The curved cabinets are internally braced and damped to reduce unwanted resonance, while specially designed JBL and IsoAcoustics feet decouple them from the floor. You (not me) can choose between high-gloss black with platinum-coloured accents or Macassar Ebony wood veneer with gold detailing. Rhodium-plated binding posts wrapped in carbon fibre and silver-plated copper internal wiring complete what is an appropriately lavish package.

Availability and pricing

The JBL Summit Everest ($199,000) and Summit K2 ($139,000) are available now from Sound Gallery by IMS at The Adelphi and T-Space Tampines. JBL recommends booking an appointment for a proper demonstration, which is probably sensible when the speakers cost this much.

How much would you spend on a pair of speakers?
