Razer <\/b>has released a new hall effect keyboard called the Huntsman V3 HE Magnetic 8kHz<\/b> (we\u2019ll be keeping it to just the Huntsman V3 HE for short). In any other world, it would be a pretty ordinary announcement, as far as keyboards go \u2013 there are already plenty of hall effect boards to go around.<\/p>\n
However, it\u2019s unique in Razer\u2019s case, as the company has typically shunned hall effect switches.\u00a0<\/p>\n Razer has usually shunned hall effect switches, but it\u2019s reversing its position here.<\/p>\n Image: Razer<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n In fact, they had a whole article<\/u> about why they specifically chose not to pursue the tech in their boards, the reasoning being that keystroke consistency was \u201cless than favourable\u201d due to the properties of hall effect magnets, and that they could achieve similar latency performance with their own optical switches.<\/p>\n Whether or not those concerns were valid, Razer has apparently worked out a hall effect switch that suits their preferences. Simply dubbed the Razer Hall Effect Magnetic Switches<\/b>, the company claimed that they achieved an average of 0.6ms in latency, 8% better than the closest hall effect competition (which was undisclosed).<\/p>\n They also claimed that their hall effect switches achieved better key-travel consistency. This was tested by setting the actuation distance at 0.1mm, and seeing how far the measured actuation point deviated from that. Razer\u2019s hall effect scored better than three unnamed competitors, only beaten by the company\u2019s own Analog Optical Switches.<\/p>\n The board comes with features you\u2019ve already seen on Razer\u2019s optical boards.<\/p>\n Image: Razer<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n As for the board\u2019s gaming performance, it comes with features you might\u2019ve already seen from the company\u2019s other boards. This includes Razer Snap Tap and Snap Flex, Trigger Mode, and Dynamic Keystroke, the last of which lets you assign up to 4 actions at different key depths on a single key. As the name suggests, it also supports an 8kHz polling rate<\/b>.<\/p>\n Being a hall effect board, the Huntsman V3 HE is analog-capable, with the 40g <\/b>switches able to actuate between 0.1mm to 4.0mm<\/b>. The board also features a detachable USB-C cable and doubleshot PBT keycaps. If you play Marvel Rivals, there\u2019s also an official keyboard profile made by NetEase for the game, too (download that here).<\/p>\n Overall, it\u2019s about time that Razer got its hands into the hall effect market, though it may bit a bit too late \u2013 not just because other manufacturers are already well-versed in this space, but also because the price of the cheapest hall effect boards are about half of what the Huntsman V3 HE cost.
