{"id":72873,"date":"2026-07-30T16:04:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T08:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=72873"},"modified":"2026-07-30T16:04:01","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T08:04:01","slug":"men-arrested-for-loanshark-harassment-in-sembawang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=72873","title":{"rendered":"Men arrested for loanshark harassment in Sembawang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Two men, aged 18 and 28, were charged in court on July 29 for their suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The police said they were alerted on July 26 at about 8.55am to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Sembawang Drive, where the wall beside the lift lobby had been scribbled with <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/trending-now\/your-family-and-neighbour-sure-cry-man-arrested-after-flats-get-splashed-paint-walls-scribbled?ref=inline-article-9439823\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"noopener\">loanshark-related graffiti<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In a photo released by the police, the graffiti read:\u00a0\u201cO$P$. Next is sure your neighbour face big problem. Confirm do until you settle me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The writer of the graffiti also appeared to have left his name behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division, Central Police Division and Clementi Police Division established the men\u2019s identities and arrested them on July 27.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"my-lg md:my-xl\">\n<p><hr class=\"flex-1 border-grayscale-100 lg:hidden\"\/><span class=\"text-grayscale-400 text-14 leading-16 font-primary text-center lg:text-left p-sm\">Scroll to continue reading<\/span><\/p>\n<hr class=\"flex-1 border-grayscale-100 my-md\"\/>\n<hr class=\"my-md border-grayscale-100\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">\u201cPreliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to be involved in at least four other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide,\u201d said the police in a <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.police.gov.sg\/Media-Hub\/News\/2026\/07\/20260728_two_men_arrested_for_loanshark_harassment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">For first-time offenders, the offence of\u00a0loanshark harassment\u00a0carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years in jail and up to six strokes of the cane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The police said they have zero tolerance for <a class=\"text-primary-brand no-underline hover:underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/trending-now\/loanshark-related-graffiti-warns-danger-20-year-old-man-arrested?ref=inline-article-9439823\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"noopener\">loanshark harassment activities<\/a>, adding: \u201cThose who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance, and disrupt public safety and security will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-primary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
