The global foldable smartphone market is poised for another year of strong growth, with Apple\u2019s long-rumoured foldable iPhone expected to provide a major boost to the segment.<\/p>\n
According to Counterpoint Research\u2019s latest Foldable Smartphone Market Forecast, global foldable smartphone shipments are projected to grow 21% year over year in 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n
The research firm attributes the continued expansion to sustained demand for premium book-style foldables, intensifying competition among smartphone makers, and, most notably, Apple\u2019s long-awaited entry into the category.<\/p>\n
Samsung is expected to remain the market leader with an estimated 32% market share<\/b>, although that would represent a decline from 40%<\/b> a year earlier as competition intensifies. Apple is forecast to debut with an impressive 25% share<\/b>, placing it just behind Samsung in its very first year. Huawei is projected to garner 24%<\/b>, while Motorola is expected to account for 8%<\/b> of global shipments.<\/p>\n
Recent supply chain reports also suggest Apple is increasingly confident about demand for its first foldable iPhone. The company has reportedly instructed suppliers to produce around 10 million units<\/b>, up from an earlier forecast of 7 to 8 million<\/b>, signalling higher-than-expected sales expectations ahead of launch.<\/p>\n
Unlike many of today\u2019s foldable smartphones, Apple\u2019s first foldable iPhone is rumoured to adopt a wider, book-style design similar to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8<\/b>. The device is expected to differentiate itself with two key hardware innovations: a nearly invisible display crease<\/b> and a higher-quality hinge mechanism<\/b> designed to improve durability and deliver a more seamless folding experience.<\/p>\n
Apple is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone later this year alongside the iPhone 18 Pro<\/b> lineup. The foldable device is likely to command a premium price of above S$3,000.<\/p>\n
