In 2018, I was driving my new car through a cross junction when suddenly, I felt a strong prompting to look to the right.<\/p>\n

A car was coming straight at me at high speed.<\/p>\n

People often say that when you\u2019re under threat, your life flashes before your eyes. At that moment, I only had one thought: \u201cOkay, I think I\u2019m going to die young, at 40 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n

I simply thought: \u201cIf I go, I go.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was no panic. No hysterical screaming. Instead, Jesus\u2019 supernatural peace filled my heart.<\/p>\n

So I just closed my eyes and gripped the steering wheel and whispered: \u201cJesus, Jesus, Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the third \u201cJesus\u201d, the other car slammed into mine, right near the driver\u2019s door.<\/p>\n

My car spun twice. The airbags exploded hard in my face and my spectacles flew off.<\/p>\n

When everything stopped, my car was a total wreck.<\/p>\n

But I was alive.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should have died\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n

Smoke was billowing from my car as two young men ran over, convinced they were about to pull out a dead driver. Then they saw that I was conscious. They forced the door open and pulled me out.<\/p>\n

Only then did I realise the full impact of the crash.<\/p>\n

Looking at what was left of my car, I couldn\u2019t understand how I had survived.<\/p>\n

There was no blood, no broken bones, no whiplash. I was shocked.<\/p>\n

Soon, a fire engine and two ambulances arrived. The collision had been so loud that numerous bystanders must have called emergency services.<\/p>\n

From the grass patch where I was sitting, I saw a paramedic run straight to my crushed car, thinking the driver was still trapped inside.<\/p>\n

When he found the driver\u2019s seat empty, he started shouting, \u201cWhere\u2019s the driver? Where\u2019s the driver?\u201d<\/p>\n

I stood up and waved.<\/p>\n

He ran to me and asked repeatedly, \u201cSir, are you okay?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I am,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n

He looked at me in disbelief and said: \u201cThis is a very serious accident. You should have died.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, I posted about the crash on social media to testify of the goodness of God and to say, \u201cThank You, Jesus, for saving my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of my friends \u2013 a Pastor who served in the SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force) for almost 15 years \u2013 said: \u201cIf I was on duty that day and I saw your car in that condition, I would have called two other vehicles to come: The red one<\/a> (emergency response vehicle, the Red Rhino) to saw the car open. The black one (hazmat vehicle) to take away the dead body.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod preserved your life. I have seen so many people die in such a crash.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGot anybody die in this car?\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n

The day after the accident, I flew to Dallas, Texas, to lead worship at Gateway Church, one of the biggest churches in America.<\/p>\n

My wife went to the car workshop. The mechanic\u2019s first question was: \u201cGot anybody die in this car?\u201d<\/p>\n

In Hokkien, the mechanic described it as si beh jia lat<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cvery terrible\u201d).<\/p>\n

The guy was shocked to hear that I had walked away without a single injury.<\/p>\n

The next miracle? The car could actually be repaired.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mechanic said, \u2018So you are the owner. \u4f60\u62dc\u4ec0\u4e48\u795e? (\u2018What God do you worship?\u2019).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When I got back to Singapore to collect my car, the mechanic said: \u201cSo you are the owner. \u4f60\u62dc\u4ec0\u4e48\u795e?\u201d (\u201cWhat God do you worship?\u201d)<\/p>\n

When I told him I was a Pastor, he added: \u201cPastor, your God is very powerful. Not only did He save your life, He also saved your car.\u201d<\/p>\n

He showed me that although the impact had destroyed much of the vehicle, the engine was untouched.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like something protected your engine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

To me, that wasn\u2019t just protection. It was also God\u2019s provision. Had the engine been destroyed, the financial loss would have been far greater.<\/p>\n

Again and again, God has preserved my life<\/span><\/h2>\n

You ask if I think it\u2019s spiritual warfare. To be honest, I don\u2019t fully know.<\/p>\n

The crash happened just before I was due to minister in one of the biggest churches in America. Sometimes I wonder if the enemy wanted to take me out.<\/p>\n

But what I can say for sure is this: Again and again, throughout my life, God has preserved me.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t understand why some people go through tragedies while others are spared. I don\u2019t have the answers.<\/p>\n

But through trials, my faith has become stronger.<\/p>\n

I simply cannot deny that Jesus is real, that He has saved me, and that His hand has been upon my life.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod, You must have a purpose for me\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n

Even today, I know it is only by God\u2019s grace that I am alive.<\/p>\n

Whenever I hear about someone surviving a serious accident, it hits me deeply.<\/p>\n

I remember seeing photos of the car wreckage after a lorry crashed into a young man\u2019s car in Malaysia. I had previously ministered to him in his youth. His accident was worse than mine, yet both he and his wife survived.<\/p>\n

When I see others going through something similar and coming out alive, I cannot help but think: \u201cGod, You must have a purpose for them, just like You had a purpose for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moments like these remind me that our lives are not our own.<\/p>\n

My story of God\u2019s faithfulness extends beyond the car crash.<\/p>\n

Over the years, I have faced serious medical challenges, including infertility (my wife and I were eventually blessed with three children) and a medical emergency that nearly left me blind in one eye (my vision was completely restored after a month).<\/p>\n

I do question why God has given me these miracles and yet, why He hasn\u2019t healed my diabetes, kidney complications and heart issues?<\/p>\n

Do I have doubts? Do I have questions? Sure I have.<\/p>\n

When you read the Bible, you see people like Elijah, Job, David also questioning God. They struggled, they cried out, they didn\u2019t always understand what God was doing.<\/p>\n

But at the end of the day, they still chose to praise the Lord. They still believed that God is sovereign.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same for me. In my own story, all these trials have actually made my faith stronger. They\u2019ve brought me to a point where I really cannot deny that Christ has saved my life.<\/p>\n

Maybe God has allowed me to have these experiences so that I can share with others that He is real.<\/p>\n
