Cliff Bleszinski is best known for his work on the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament series at Epic Games and LawBreakers <\/em>at Boss Key Productions. Now, he is interested in developing a new game after years away from the industry, but don’t expect it to feature competitive multiplayer.<\/p>\n

Bleszinski, who also goes by CliffyB online, revealed as much in an 80 Level interview while reflecting on his entire career. He explained that LawBreakers <\/em>and Radical Heights<\/em> studio Boss Key Productions failed because of his ego and alcoholism, a flawed publishing agreement with Nexon, and the decision not to launch LawBreakers<\/em> on Xbox. Bleszinski is now four months sober, and he’s getting the urge to make video games again.<\/p>\n

“At the end of the day, I want to create characters and worlds. I want to make stuff that people will cosplay as and get tattooed on their bodies,” he told 80 Level. Later, he mentioned the surprising places in which he currently finds inspiration, stating, “I can’t walk into a Home Depot without seeing a full arsenal at every turn. There’s so much more than just chainsaws.”<\/p>\n

Bleszinski wouldn’t say much about the next game he’s working on, presumably because it’s very early days for the project. That said, he knows one thing it won’t be: it won’t have PvP like almost all of the games that he is best known for.<\/p>\n

“Good luck to anyone in that space. I’m more of a fan of PvE these days. Horde mode saved Gears 2<\/em>, and I believe that space is evergreen because players just want to hop online with friends and shoot some stuff, no frills, no questions asked.”<\/p>\n

Considering the number of high-profile PvP game flops we’ve seen in the years since LawBreakers<\/em>‘ failure \u2014 Bleszinski joked that “LawBreakers <\/em>tripped so Concord <\/em>could faceplant” elsewhere in the interview \u2014 it’s not surprising that he’d want to avoid that genre. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what form this new project will take if it fully materializes.<\/p>\n
