\u00a0<\/p>\n KUALA LUMPUR, 17 JULY 2026<\/strong> \u2013 Singapore Women\u2019s National Team ended a nineteen-year wait for a win against Malaysia yesterday (16 July), beating the hosts 3-1 at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium in their final Group A match at the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women\u2019s Cup 2026.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0A Danelle Tan brace, which included a penalty, and 17-year-old Yuvika Suresh\u2019s first international goal sealed Singapore\u2019s top spot in the group with four points, and ended their longest drought against 95th-ranked Malaysia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n It was the Lionesses\u2019 first victory over the Tigresses since a 1-0 win at the AFC Women\u2019s Asian Cup Qualifiers in 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s always that causeway rivalry against Malaysia, but whoever we play \u2014 Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia \u2014 we\u2019re always going in for the win,\u201d said Danelle, who contributed three goals in the group stage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a nice atmosphere today, the fans were excited, and that\u2019s the kind of atmosphere we always like to play in. It\u2019s great we were able to get the win today and end this long wait.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Just 13 minutes into the match, Yuvika capitalised on a loose ball off Mulan Ayliffe\u2019s low cross, punished a fumble from Malaysian goalkeeper Asma Junaidi, and slotted home her maiden international goal.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Singapore wasn\u2019t done before the break either \u2014 Nur Sarah Zu\u2019risqha picked out Danelle with a clever ball over the top, and the striker made no mistake, coolly finishing for her 12th goal in Lionesses colours.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Tigresses hit back through Henrietta Justine in the 59th minute, capitalising on space in behind to halve the deficit and set up a tense final half-hour. Singapore held firm, and Danelle settled the nerves for good in the 73rd minute, stepping up to convert a penalty after Asma brought her down in the box.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cBoth us and Malaysia knew the stakes of this game. Whoever won was going to go through, and I think you could see that in the game as well,\u201d said Danelle, who remains the Lionesses\u2019 all-time top scorer, now with 13 goals. \u201cIt was a very end-to-end game, both sides had a lot of chances. I think the team did well to take our chances today and get away with three points.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Second-placed Laos also advanced from the group on two points, setting up a semi-final meeting with Group B winners Cambodia. Singapore will face Indonesia, runners-up in Group B, this Sunday, 19 July, at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The two sides last met in June, when the Lionesses beat the 110th-ranked Garuda Pertiwi 2-0 \u2014 only their second win over Indonesia in eight meetings over the past five years, with the other six ending in defeat.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Still, Danelle remains cautious.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe definitely can\u2019t be complacent just because we beat them recently.
