So much so that content creator Jaedyn Choo had no qualms about cycling alone to Jurong Point at 2am for supper.<\/p>\nThe 21-year-old, who goes by @jaejaepeanut on Instagram and TikTok, recently documented her late-night trip after deciding she’d rather ride there than pay for food delivery.<\/p>\n
Jaedyn cycled through the quiet streets, admitting she wasn’t even sure if the mall would allow dine-in customers at that hour.<\/p>\n
Fortunately for her, Japanese restaurant chain Sukiya was still serving customers, and staff even offered her a fan while she enjoyed her rice bowl.<\/p>\n
But her midnight outing didn’t end there.<\/p>\n
After finishing her meal, Jaedyn popped into the mall\u2019s 24-hour FairPrice supermarket, where she picked up a drink, a tray of pork belly, and even made herself some personalised name stickers.<\/p>\n
“At 3am I got my supper, I got stickers and I got a drink. It’s a complete success,” she declared, adding that she’d bring her neighbours along next time.<\/p>\n
While some viewers were surprised at the mall\u2019s late-night offerings, others were more struck by something else: that a young woman felt comfortable cycling to the mall alone in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n
One Instagram comment, which has racked up more than 5,000 likes, read: “When your government takes care of you so you can actually be outside at night! As a woman!”<\/p>\n
Another, with more than 3,000 likes, said: “If a woman’s cycling at 2 in the morning to grab food, it shows how safe this country is.”<\/p>\n
Many overseas viewers said the video reminded them what they missed most about Singapore, while one quipped: “Meanwhile in Australia all the cafes close at 2pm…”<\/p>\n
A TikTok user from the Philippines said the video made them envious, joking: “Cries in Philippines.”<\/p>\n
However, not everyone agreed with the sentiment.<\/p>\n
Some pointed out that women should still exercise caution, with one commenter writing: “Actually there were cases of women getting raped after midnight at secluded spots.”<\/p>\n
Another replied that while “crime will always exist”, Singapore is “in a pretty good place” compared with countries where many people don’t feel safe going out after dark.<\/p>\n
Others also advised Jaedyn to avoid dark or secluded routes and to continue taking precautions during her late-night cycling trips.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
