{"id":68903,"date":"2026-07-15T17:04:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T09:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=68903"},"modified":"2026-07-15T17:04:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T09:04:58","slug":"star-wars-creator-george-lucas-is-very-much-pro-ai-for-making-movies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=68903","title":{"rendered":"Star Wars Creator George Lucas Is Very Much Pro AI for Making Movies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">As Hollywood and audiences wrestle with the impact of AI, one legend of cinema has said rejecting using the technology to make movies is like rejecting cars in favor of horses.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">George Lucas, who founded Lucasfilm, Industrial Light &amp; Magic, and THX, and revolutionized special effects in Hollywood, has said that AI \u2014 warts and all \u2014 represents progress, and \u201cthere\u2019s nothing you can do about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cArtificial intelligence means it\u2019s much easier for us to make movies,\u201d he told A Rabbit\u2019s Foot. \u201cIt\u2019s very much like sitting here saying, \u2018Well, I believe the horse and the buggy is really where it\u2019s at. These cars, they break down, they need gas, there\u2019s all kinds of problems with them and pretty soon they\u2019ll be making them into tanks, and then they\u2019ll be killing people. There\u2019s even an entirely AI-generated The Odyssey film \u2014 deliberately timed to run up against the release of Christopher Nolan\u2019s big budget The Odyssey \u2014 although it has been heavily criticized.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Indeed, Lucas\u2019 comments here are in stark contrast to those of Nolan himself, who recently expressed delight in what he called the \u201crejection\u201d of AI slop by younger audiences. 21-year-old Backrooms director Kane Parsons has called AI \u201cgenuinely harmful\u201d to creativity, and a symptom of \u201ccultural and economic rot.\u201d \u201cI think I\u2019m in the same boat as most well-adjusted people,\u201d Parsons told The Australian. \u201cIf I could snap my fingers and make generative AI disappear forever, I probably would. Creatively, I get no enjoyment from using those tools. Indeed, Lucas has said much the same about AI in the past.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cI mean, this isn&#8217;t at all surprising,\u201d one person said. \u201cDo you remember how crazy he was for CGI? He definitely would have made a movie with mostly AI if not entirely. This is actually a very very George Lucas take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cGeorge has a very mechanic mindset when it comes to film making,\u201d another fan said. \u201cAI is just another tool in the tool box to him and as a mechanic of course he&#8217;s going to want to use the cool new tool.
