Seren is described as &#8220;a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm&#8221; and &#8220;a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil (Lee Pace),\u201d and it\u2019s the word \u201clethal\u201d that Taylor-Joy is particularly fond of.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Speaking to Variety, Taylor-Joy said that in her youth she had decided that she could be either a Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter fan, not both, so only came to watch the Peter Jackson movies during the COVID-19 pandemic. She now plans to read J. R. R. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)&lt;\/h3&gt;&#10;The only potential confusion in the Lord of the Rings-Hobbit timeline comes from the fact that The Hobbit trilogy is set 60 years before The Lord of the Rings, despite being released a decade later.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&#10;Chronologically, the story kicks off with 2012\u2019s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which sees Martin Freeman take on the role of a younger Bilbo Baggins (played by Ian Holm in the LotR trilogy). Gandalf \u2013\u00a0one of several characters whose stories run through both trilogies \u2014\u00a0recruits Bilbo to join Thorin (Richard Armitage) and Company to help reclaim the Dwarven kingdom beneath Erebor, aka The Lonely Mountain, that had been sacked by the dragon Smaug. Nobody told me that. I just came up with that on my own. Luckily, throughout COVID, I then watched all of \u2018Lord of the Rings,\u2019 and\u2026 turns out you can love both, and you should.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Without giving anything away about her role in The Hunt for Gollum, Taylor-Joy added: \u201cIt\u2019s so fun. I mean, if my tombstone can say \u2018Lethal Elf,\u2019 I feel like I did a good job on this planet. So yeah, I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">The creation of Seren for The Hunt for Gollum has certainly got Lord of the Rings aficionados talking. Reacting to the news, many fans have commented that Seren&#8217;s role sounds similar to Tauriel \u2014 the character played by Lost and Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly in Peter Jackson&#8217;s Hobbit movies \u2014 who was also an elven aide for Thranduil, as well as being one of that trilogy&#8217;s most controversial additions.<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"box-wrapper jsx-2673806401\" data-cy=\"article-video\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">The Hunt for Gollum is based on a period only mentioned briefly in The Lord of the Ring, and depicts Gollum&#8217;s whereabouts prior to the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. At this time, Gandalf, Aragorn, and Sauron&#8217;s forces all seek the Ring of Power, and we\u2019ll get to see more of Gollum\u2019s origin story.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">This week it emerged that The Hunt for Gollum will digitally de-age some of its characters using machine learning and AI. Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen reprise their iconic roles of Frodo and Gandalf over 25 years after The Fellowship of the Ring came out, so the tech will be used to make them look younger even than they appeared in the 2001 classic.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum hits theaters on December 17, 2027.
