Soon, TikTok <\/b>will have stricter detection of certain types of AI-generated content, including\u00a0political<\/b>, current events, financial advice, and medica<\/b>l topics.<\/p>\n

This is one of many changes underway for TikTok as the platform moves to a more informed approach to AI-generated content, as mentioned in its newsroom update here<\/u>.<\/p>\n

What would TikTok consider as AI-generated spam?<\/h2>\n

In its announcement, TikTok defines AI-generated spam as mass-produced content that \u201ccrowds out\u201d authentic creators, such as HardwareZone\u2019s TikTok channel<\/u> (all authentic, albeit a shameless self-plug).<\/p>\n

In its efforts to combat spammy AI slop, TikTok itself said it removed 86 million fake accounts in the first three months of 2026.<\/p>\n

The upcoming tweak <\/b>would change TikTok\u2019s detection algorithms, with AI-generated content on topics that can influence public trust and well-being coming under a more watchful eye.<\/p>\n

While the platform did define which ones they are (as mentioned above), it did not explain how aggressive or effective this would necessarily be at cleaning up the platform, nor did it provide exact deadlines beyond \u201cin the coming weeks<\/b>\u201d.<\/p>\n

What other AI changes are there?<\/h2>\n

TikTok recently joined the C2PA Steering Committee. While it\u2019s mainly a self-regulating club that promotes responsible, verifiable use of AI, its members are mostly organisations that would likely profit from AI use. Among its Steering Committee members are Meta, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI \u2014 these get to decide on policy.<\/p>\n

Brands like Qualcomm, Arm, Canon, Fujifilm, Leica, Logitech, Huawei, and many more are counted among its general members, with the understanding that they would implement these policies in their products and services, adhering to guidelines. An example is how Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon processors for phones are C2PA-compliant<\/u>, which we\u2019ve reported on, as far back as 2020<\/u>.<\/p>\n

While is largely a shift in its governance and influence on\u00a0 AI use, it\u2019s worth noting that TikTok already watermarks AI content in an invisible manner<\/u> (three billion of them, so far). Joining C2PA as a policy-shaping member would also mean this watermarking won\u2019t go away anytime soon.<\/p>\n

In-app hub for learning how to spot AI content<\/h2>\n

Separately, TikTok is now working on educating its users about AI-generated content. While no specific dates or mechanics were given, it said that the app will soon have a resource hub for users to learn \u201cpractical skills\u201d in spotting AI content \u201cwhen they search for AI-related terms\u201d.<\/p>\n
