<\/div>Plans have been unveiled in Singapore for a transport hub in Woodlands that will be linked directly to the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System and the Woodlands North MRT station.<\/p><\/div>\n
The mixed-use transport hub on a 5.66 hectares site is at the centre of the planned Woodlands Gateway project, which will feature retail and office spaces, as well as green areas for leisure.<\/p>\n
Tender documents from JTC Corporation show the hub will have direct links to rail lines, as well as a planned underground road network for heavy vehicles and trucks that will keep surface-level roads free of heavy traffic, the Straits Times reported.<\/p>\n
The Woodlands project will integrates transport, commercial and industrial functions into a single district, the corporation said. The RTS Link will be able to transport up to 10,000 travellers an hour both ways when it becomes operational by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the transport hub is to be completed by about 2030 and will comprise a bus interchange of about 6,500 sq m, with 28,000 sq m of retail space and 22,000 sq m of flexible office space.<\/p>\n
The overall project will also feature two blocks of factories to be completed in 2031 and 2034.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, Singapore\u2019s trade and industry minister Gan Siow Huang said the Woodlands Gateway will serve as the republic\u2019s northern corridor to enhance connectivity with the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.<\/p>\n
Woodlands Gateway would also cater to firms with manufacturing sites in Johor but with their regional headquarters in Singapore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
