A Grab driver is reportedly under investigation after a passenger shared a video showing him making repeated remarks about her appearance, ethnicity and age during a ride that left her feeling uncomfortable.<\/p>\n
Content creator Sarah Lim uploaded the one-minute clip to her TikTok account, @sarxh.lim<\/a>, on July 11, where it has since garnered more than 222,100 views, 14,000 likes, 279 comments, 1,157 saves and over 6,600 shares.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I first got into the cab, I felt the convo started getting weirder and weirder so I immediately started recording in case he said anything out of line,\u201d Lim wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was asking me quite a bit of personal questions… and I just overall felt uneasy.<\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t too sure if what he said counted as out of line or not, so I told my friends and parents about it and they agreed that something was a bit off.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe he was trying to be nice but it just came out wrong?? But yeah, just a reminder to be safe and (wary).\u201d<\/p>\n Text overlaid on the video added that she \u201cdidn\u2019t know how to react\u201d and felt \u201ca bit uncomfortable and disturbed\u201d.<\/p>\n In the video, the driver can be heard commenting on Lim\u2019s appearance, telling her: \u201cFor a Chinese, you got really nice tan skin.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re charming,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n He also remarks that there is a \u201cdemand\u201d for women like her.<\/p>\n The conversation then turns to Lim\u2019s background, with the driver asking what dialect group she belongs to. When Sarah replies that she is \u201ca bit of Canto\u201d, the driver responds: \u201cOh my God, I love Cantonese girls. They\u2019re so good looking, man.\u201d<\/p>\n He later adds: \u201cCanto is really a sexy language to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n The driver also asks Lim how old she is. She replies that she is 20 years old and still a student.<\/p>\n Throughout the clip, Lim can be heard laughing nervously and frequently looking away.<\/p>\n While the content creator did not reveal the ride hailing platform the driver was from, Grab Singapore responded publicly in the comments section of her TikTok video.<\/p>\n \u201cHi Sarah, I\u2019m so sorry you had to go through that. Feeling unsafe or uncomfortable is never okay,\u201d a spokesperson from the company wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cPlease know that our driver team is already looking into this and taking action as we speak.<\/p>\n \u201cRest assured, someone from our safety team will still call you this evening to get the details from you and assist you further.\u201d<\/p>\n Stomp has reached out to Grab Singapore and Sarah Lim for additional comment.<\/p>\n Many viewers said they found the driver\u2019s remarks inappropriate and sympathised with Lim.<\/p>\n One commenter wrote: \u201cWhat is up with all these horny old men PHV drivers who are being weird… Please tell me you reported this. Incredibly uncomfortable to watch as a viewer.\u201d<\/p>\n Another said: \u201cWow that is so uncomfortable. I\u2019m so sorry you had to go through that.\u201d<\/p>\n Others encouraged Lim and other women to be more direct in such situations<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re too nice haha, next time bring headphones and don\u2019t talk to anybody beyond saying hello uncle,\u201d one user commented.<\/p>\n Another wrote: \u201cSome girls are too nice… don\u2019t be afraid to be rude when protecting yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n Some commenters, however, questioned why passengers continued engaging in conversations they found uncomfortable.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t understand why passengers engage in such conversations with the drivers. They already know it\u2019s out of line, just zone out, look at the phone, whatever!\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n The incident comes shortly after another alleged case involving a private-hire driver, in which a Gojek driver was accused of proposing a \u201cthreesome\u201d<\/a> to a female passenger and her partner.<\/p>\n
