{"id":66798,"date":"2026-07-07T15:15:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T07:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=66798"},"modified":"2026-07-07T15:15:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T07:15:58","slug":"tarmo-peltokoski-and-hong-kong-philharmonic-absent-jing-wang-take-thrilling-sea-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=66798","title":{"rendered":"Tarmo Peltokoski and Hong Kong Philharmonic, absent Jing Wang, take thrilling sea journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Closing the season with scale and grandeur on July 3, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra launched the audience onto the high seas with a programme anchored by Ralph Vaughan Williams\u2019 rarely performed <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">A Sea Symphony<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The sprawling work has not been aired by the orchestra since the 1980s and it is a cantata, song cycle and oratorio rolled into one, each of its four movements set to American poet Walt Whitman\u2019s lines on exploration and humanity.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">With <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Tarmo Peltokoski<\/span> at the helm, it was a stirring and arresting journey from the outset, employing the forces of an augmented orchestra, the concert-hall organ, three choirs and two vocal soloists.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cA Song for All Seas, All Ships\u201d, the powerful opening proclamation, showcased both the HK Phil\u2019s brass section with its bright, acerbic fanfares, and the robustness of the combined HK Phil Chorus, State Choir Latvija and the acclaimed London-based Tenebrae choir.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1qeofuq e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-bjn8wh e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra musicians pay tribute to veteran horn player Homer Lee (back row, middle), who is retiring.
