Just taking 2 leave days (Tuesday 18 May and Wednesday 19 May) still nets you a very tidy six-day break from Saturday 15 May to Thursday 20 May.

Bear in mind this is a popular window, so flights to many destinations will be pricier than usual and award space more limited. Worth booking early!

Best dates for a long trip

Planning something more ambitious in 2027? That same May window is comfortably the most efficient place to spend your leave.

Take the three ‘golden days’ above and simply carry on into the following week, adding Monday 24 May to Friday 28 May, or the week before (Monday 10 May to Friday 14 May) and you’ll turn 8 days of leave into a full 16 days off – Saturday 15 May to Sunday 30 May or Saturday 8 to Sunday 23 May.

One to note for the diary – the very end of 2027 is a washout, with both Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December 2027) and New Year’s Day 2028 (Saturday 1 January) falling on a Saturday, so there’s no year-end long weekend to sign off 2027, and no leave-stretching option there either, like there is most years.

Still got 2026 leave days to use?

If you’re still holding on to an annual leave balance to use up this year, don’t worry.

We’ve got you covered with our guide to maximising Singapore’s 2026 Public Holidays.

Don’t waste your annual leave in 2027. The pick of the year is a superb week in May – Hari Raya Haji (Monday 17th) and Vesak Day (Thursday 20th) land just three days apart, so three well-placed leave days turn into nine days off, or a full 16 days for eight days of leave if you’re after something more ambitious.

Beyond that there are five long weekends needing no leave at all, seven opportunities for a 4-day trip with just a single leave day, and a five-day break over Hari Raya Puasa in March for two leave days. The one disappointment is Chinese New Year, which falls across the weekend in 2027 and so misses out on its usual leave-stretching potential.

As always, we’re assuming most of our readers are office-based ‘Monday to Friday’ types. If you work a different pattern you’ll want to run your eye over the full public holiday calendar above to pinpoint where your own sweet spots lie in 2027.

(Photo: Plane’s Portrait Aviation Media / Malcolm Lu)

Wherever you’re hoping to jet off to, it may be worth locking in your annual leave now to maximise your days off, then work out where to go later.

(Cover Photo: Aman)

Don’t waste your annual leave in 2027.
