UFS 4.1 from leading memory brands (such as Kioxia, Micron, and even Samsung) offers bandwidth ranging from 4.2 to 4.6 GB/s.

The announcement introduces Samsung’s first commercial UFS 5.0, which not only adheres to JEDEC’s memory standards for the storage technology but also delivers a bandwidth of 10.8GB/s — more than double that of its own UFS 4.1 (used in its Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra phone).

To be precise, Samsung said its sequential read speed reaches 10.8GB/s, while sequential write speed caps out at 9.5GB/s. It did not miss the opportunity to add that these doubled speeds are obviously very good for running demanding, on-device AI applications.

Beyond speed, Samsung also said it has better power efficiency through clock gating and multi-voltage technologies. It lowers the power required to transfer the same amount of data, which the brand said is up to 40% more power-efficient than its own UFS 4.1 storage technology.

It is also 16.7% smaller than UFS 4.1, measuring 7.5 x 13mm, at just 0.9mm thick. These might not matter to many electronic appliances out there, but the smaller footprint is critical to smartphone components that need to maximise every millimetre available within. The reduced size also makes it possible to see the storage made available in previously hard-to-implement form factors, such as smart glasses (XR).

When will we see mobile devices with UFS 5.0 storage?

Samsung said it will begin mass production in Q4 2026. The earliest we’d likely see them on mobile devices is 2027 or later, and that’s still dependent on brands buying and using them.

Source: Samsung

Samsung has announced the development of its fastest Universal Flash Storage (UFS) technology, bringing the memory industry to the new UFS 5.0 standard and delivering…

[32
4034,1948,6913,6448,4468,3204,25700
post-65014","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech-gadgets-reviews","tag-memory","tag-premium","tag-samsungs","tag-speed","tag-storage","tag-todays","tag-ufs","wpcat-32-id
["GET
