SINGAPORE \u2013 There have been 17 reported cases of abuse against officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) so far in 2026, as it reminded the public that such actions could hinder front-liners from carrying out their duties.<\/p>\n
These form part of the around 120 cases of abuse SCDF front-liners have seen over the past three years.<\/p>\n
On one occasion, a person had hurled vulgarities and made lewd remarks at the paramedic while she was providing medical assistance, said SCDF in a Facebook post on June 26.<\/p>\n
Despite repeated attempts to calm the person down, verbal aggression persisted, it added.<\/p>\n
The person was sentenced to 11 weeks\u2019 jail in April.<\/p>\n
In 2025, SCDF responded to about 700 emergency calls each day.<\/p>\n
The force said: \u201cEvery emergency call matters to us and we will do our utmost to serve the public to the best of our abilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, physical and\/or verbal abuse hinders our front-liners from carrying out their duties.\u201d<\/p>\n
In its post, SCDF said it will not tolerate any form of abuse against its front-liners and will make a police report if this happens.<\/p>\n
It added: \u201cStand with our front-liners as they carry out their mission to protect and save lives and property.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of their duty can be jailed for up to seven years and fined or caned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
