Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the company will\u00a0be increasing\u00a0prices to\u00a0cope with\u00a0rising memory\u00a0prices.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook explained that the company has been absorbing higher component costs and optimising its supply chain.\u00a0But that has its limits, and the current situation is unsustainable, even for a company\u00a0that enjoys\u00a0the scale\u00a0that\u00a0Apple\u00a0does.<\/p>\n

Effective immediately, Apple has increased the prices of its Macs and iPads. If it\u2019s any consolation, iPhones have been spared and cost the same<\/b>.\u00a0The price increases vary, but as you\u2019ll see from the table below, they are typically a few hundred dollars.<\/p>\n

This was inevitable,\u00a0seeing how prices of\u00a0memory have surged as AI companies continue to buy up flash memory to build data centres.\u00a0TrendForce recently warned that\u00a0laptop prices could rise by as much as 40%\u00a0due to escalating memory and processor costs. And earlier this year, SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won warned that\u00a0the memory chip crunch could persist until 2030, affecting a wide range of consumer electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
