A man was seen seated on the floor of a train, right in front of the door, seemingly oblivious that he was in the way of other commuters.<\/p>\n
Stompers Anon1<\/strong> and Anon2<\/strong>, who are sisters, said the incident occurred on the East-West Line<\/a> on June 14 at around 3.15pm, while the train was travelling from Pasir Ris to Tuas.<\/p>\n According to the Stompers, the man was seated in the last cabin of the train, where he was \u201cblocking half the door\u201d and \u201crefused to move\u201d despite human traffic.<\/p>\n They shared photos of the man sitting on the floor and using his phone even as other commuters \u2014 including a man who was pushing a child in a pram<\/a> and an older-looking woman \u2014 were entering the train.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can see that he simply didn\u2019t care about the crowd coming in, whether they were young or old,\u201d Anon1 said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t care when asked to move by other commuters.\u201d<\/p>\n PHOTO: STOMP<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n Anon1 called for enforcement action to be taken against the \u201centitled\u201d man and said: \u201cThe authorities must impose a fine for such behaviour, or else people will assume it\u2019s right to sit down and block (the way).\u201d<\/p>\n Anon2 echoed her sister\u2019s sentiments and slammed the man for being \u201cinconsiderate\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is totally unacceptable,\u201d she added. \u201cSingapore is a goner now.\u201d<\/p>\n The Stompers said the man was still seated even after the train passed Jurong East MRT station and when they alighted at 3.50pm.<\/p>\n Their complaint is not an isolated one.<\/p>\n Last month, Stomper\u00a0<\/strong>Anand called out a woman for sitting on the train floor<\/a> and \u201ctaking up a lot of space\u201d on the North-South Line. Similarly, the woman was seen using her mobile phone and remained seated on the floor throughout the Stomper\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n Sitting on train floors in Singapore is not allowed \u2014 a rule that was part of signage rolled out progressively from December 2024 to curb nuisance\u00a0behaviour<\/a>.<\/p>\n Commuters are also advised to occupy only one seat and\u00a0keep noise levels down<\/a>.<\/p>\n It was reported in July 2025 that\u00a0more than 160 notifications of offence<\/a>\u00a0had been issued since the signage was introduced.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
