Audio-Technica has launched the Hotaru<\/b>, a premium all-in-one record player that combines a turntable, amplifier and speakers into a single system. But unlike most record players, the Hotaru\u2019s platter appears to float in mid-air.<\/p>\n
Named after the Japanese word for firefly<\/b>, the Hotaru uses a magnetic repulsion system to suspend its turntable platter above the main chassis. According to Audio-Technica, the design is not only intended to create a striking visual effect, but also helps isolate the playback mechanism from vibrations that can affect vinyl performance.<\/p>\n
The Hotaru is housed in a transparent acrylic body paired with an aluminium enclosure and brass feet. Integrated speakers are built into the chassis, eliminating the need for separate amplification and speaker components.<\/p>\n Photo: Audio-Technica<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Adding to its visual appeal is a built-in lighting system featuring 20 colours and three display modes. Users can select a fixed colour, enable smooth colour transitions, or activate a Link Mode that analyses the music in real time and changes lighting effects to match the audio.<\/p>\n Under the hood, the Hotaru comes fitted with a straight carbon-fibre tonearm and a special black edition of Audio-Technica\u2019s AT-VM740xML<\/b> microlinear moving magnet cartridge. A concealed switch beneath the platter also allows users to switch between moving magnet and moving coil phono preamp gain settings for compatibility with other cartridges.<\/p>\n To celebrate the launch of Hotaru, Audio-Technica S.E.A is collaborating with Appetite \u2013 a local multi-sensory research space and culinary-art lounge \u2013 to highlight the player\u2019s \u201cinterdisciplinary nature\u201d and demonstrate how high-fidelity audio can function as a dynamic, live interior design piece that elevates luxury hospitality and residential spaces alike.<\/p>\n Photo: Audio-Technica<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The Audio-Technica Hotaru is limited to 1,000 units worldwide<\/b> and retails for an eye-watering $13,188<\/b> in Singapore.
