Valve has finally revealed pricing and availability details for the Steam Machine<\/b>, its living room gaming PC that was first announced last November and that serves as a desktop counterpart to the highly successful Steam Deck.<\/p>\n
The Steam Machine will be offered in two configurations: a 512GB model priced at US$1,049<\/b> (S$1,360 est.)<\/b> and a 2TB version priced at US$1,349<\/b> (S$1,748 est.)<\/b>. However, getting hold of one may prove more challenging than paying for it.<\/p>\n
For one, Valve is using a lottery-based reservation system rather than an open pre-order. Interested buyers can register through Valve\u2019s website from today until 25 June at 10am Pacific Time, after which the company will randomly assign positions in a reservation queue.<\/p>\n
Valve says the system is designed to \u201cimprove the purchasing experience and reduce opportunities for scalpers and resellers\u201d. Customers selected in the queue will receive an email invitation to complete their purchase as stock becomes available.<\/p>\n

According to Valve, its original target price for the Steam Machine was ultimately \u201cno longer viable\u201d due to rising component costs and limited hardware availability.<\/p>\n The company said that some components had become so difficult to source that supplies were unavailable \u201cat any price\u201d.
