A breeding population of the Cryptic Painted Frog \u2014 a vulnerable species native to Singapore \u2014 was successfully established on Pulau Ubin, with 31 tadpoles seen in April 2026. Furthermore, over 1,300 native fauna species were found living on Pulau Ubin, according to recent biodiversity surveys, said the National Parks Board on Jun. 20. These include two species that were recorded for the first time in science: a spider (Piranthus kohi) and a scarab beetle (Anomala sp. aff. matricula). 26 new fauna species were also recorded for the first time in Singapore, including a wasp that is known only to Pulau Ubin in Singapore. The new records are included in NParks\u2019 new e-publication, \u201cAn Update of the Biodiversity in Pulau Ubin\u201d, which compiles findings of biodiversity surveys on the island from 2018. It is the first of its kind to comprehensively document the island\u2019s biodiversity, and provide updated inventories of key flora and fauna species.
