Toy Story 5 <\/em>now has the biggest opening weekend gross of 2026, dethroning The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/em>. In just three days, Toy Story 5<\/em> has grossed $160 million in the United States alone.<\/p>\n

According to Deadline\u2019s reporting, that impressive yield gives Toy Story 5<\/em> the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2026, as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/em><\/span>opened to $130.9 million over its first three-day weekend.<\/span> Toy Story 5 <\/em><\/span>also grossed more than both Toy Story 3<\/em> and Toy Story 4<\/em> did in their respective opening weekends.<\/p>\n

In fact, Pixar’s latest did so well that it has the second-highest opening-weekend gross of any animated movie ever. The only other one to have a higher three-day total is Incredibles 2<\/em>, another Pixar animation, which grossed $182.6 million during its first weekend in theaters in 2018. For a post-pandemic theatrical release, earning second place is a very impressive feat.<\/p>\n

As for the other movies in theaters right now, Obsession <\/em>continues to hold strong while Hugh Jackman\u2019s new movie, Death of Robin Hood<\/em>, underperformed. Here are the estimated top ten highest-grossing films of the weekend, per Deadline:<\/p>\n

  5. \n Scary Movie<\/em>: $6.6 million\n <\/li>\n
  6. \n Masters of the Universe<\/em>: $4.9 million\n <\/li>\n
  7. \n The Mandalorian and Grogu<\/em>: $4 million\n <\/li>\n
  8. \n Leviticus<\/em>: $3 million\n <\/li>\n
  9. \n Death of Robin Hood<\/em>: $2.5 million\n <\/li>\n
  10. \n Michael<\/em>: $2.1 million\n <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It\u2019s not too surprising that Toy Story 5<\/em> is proving to be a massive success, as Toy Story is a beloved animated film franchise that kids enjoy and parents are nostalgic for. In Polygon\u2019s review of the movie, Brian VanHooker wrote, \u201cWhile the movie doesn\u2019t quite reach the heights of the first three films, it is a thoughtful, funny, emotional entry into the franchise that improves upon Toy Story 4<\/em> in every way.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Clearly, audiences agree. Expect Toy Story 5<\/em> to stay in theaters for some time before eventually making its way to Disney+. The video game industry will capitalize on this movie\u2019s success later this year, too, as Digital Eclipse and Atari are releasing a collection of retro Toy Story games.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
