However,\u00a0as a sector as a whole, it is&#13;<br \/>\n  relatively modest, Jolene Tan (main picture), AIWM (Singapore)&#13;<br \/>\n  president, and managing partner, SingAlliance Pte Ltd, said in&#13;<br \/>\n  the association\u2019s recent conference held at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefing.com\/html\/section.php?keywords=Singapore%20Management%20University\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Singapore&#13;<br \/>\n  Management University<\/a>. (See a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefingasia.com\/article.php\/The-Asian-EAM-Opportunity%3A-What-Bank-Custodians-Say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n  feature<\/a>\u00a0from last year about the EAM sector, examining&#13;<br \/>\n  the angle of custodians.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the macro environment becomes increasingly complex&#13;<br \/>\n  \u2013\u00a0marked by shifting geopolitics, technological disruption&#13;<br \/>\n  and evolving regulatory expectations \u2013 independent wealth&#13;<br \/>\n  management firms are operating in a landscape that demands&#13;<br \/>\n  greater clarity, conviction and collaboration,\u201d Tan said in her&#13;<br \/>\n  address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Singapore\u2019s independent wealth management sector remains&#13;<br \/>\n  relatively small, firms are held to the same rigorous standards&#13;<br \/>\n  as large financial institutions, even as they navigate similar&#13;<br \/>\n  challenges \u2013\u00a0rising operating costs, talent retention&#13;<br \/>\n  challenges and evolving client expectations \u2013\u00a0with leaner&#13;<br \/>\n  teams and tighter resources,\u201d Tan continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AIWM\u00a0(Singapore) has more than 80 members. Exact numbers of&#13;<br \/>\n  EAMs and other independent wealth players in total aren\u2019t easy to&#13;<br \/>\n  pin down. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefing.com\/html\/section.php?keywords=Monetary%20Authority%20of%20Singapore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monetary&#13;<br \/>\n  Authority of Singapore<\/a>&#8220;s 2024 Singapore Asset Management&#13;<br \/>\n  Survey,\u00a0the total industry\u2019s AuM at the end of that year&#13;<br \/>\n  reached S$7.07 ($5.47) trillion. The net number of licensed fund&#13;<br \/>\n  management companies in Singapore rose from 1,250 as at December&#13;<br \/>\n  2023 to 1,298 as at December 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With tailwinds such as this, it is unsurprising that Tan and her&#13;<br \/>\n  fellow members have been busy. In July 2025, AIWM (Singapore)&#13;<br \/>\n  launched its AIWM Certification programme, designed to enhance&#13;<br \/>\n  professional standards and the reputation of member firms; it&#13;<br \/>\n  also expanded collaboration with industry groups and&#13;<br \/>\n  institutions, such as the MAS Financial Hub and STEP Singapore,&#13;<br \/>\n  to give just two examples.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic links<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n  The very fact that Tan spoke at SMU for her April conference \u2013&#13;<br \/>\n  attended by <em>WealthBriefingAsia<\/em> \u2013 highlighted another&#13;<br \/>\n  important area: close links with business schools and wider&#13;<br \/>\n  academia. (<em>WBA<\/em> interviewed SMU on its work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefingasia.com\/article.php\/EXCLUSIVE%3A-Building-Wealth-Management-Talent-%E2%80%93-In-Conversation-With-Singapore-Management-University?id=207745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n  here<\/a>.)&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/wealthbriefing.com\/cms\/images\/app\/SMU%20panel%20photo%202026.jpeg\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 400px;\"\/>&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n  <strong>A panel discussion at the AIWM (Singapore)&#13;<br \/>\n  conference.<\/strong>&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n  <strong>Collaboration<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n  \u201cBuilding on what we started together last year, it was&#13;<br \/>\n  especially meaningful for us to see this collaboration between&#13;<br \/>\n  AIWM and SMU continue and grow,\u201d Tan said. \u201cThe energy,&#13;<br \/>\n  engagement, and quality of discussions this year really reflected&#13;<br \/>\n  what can be achieved, when the industry and academia come&#13;<br \/>\n  together with a shared purpose. I strongly believe that the&#13;<br \/>\n  development of our industry must go hand in hand with the&#13;<br \/>\n  cultivation of future talent and thought leadership,&#13;<br \/>\n  strengthening the bridge between theory and practice, and SMU\u2019s&#13;<br \/>\n  collaboration plays a vital role in this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cRIGHT\u201d way<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n  Tan said the association frames how the industry must operate by&#13;<br \/>\n  the \u201cRIGHT\u201d approach, with \u201cR\u201d standing for \u201cresponsible&#13;<br \/>\n  stewards\u201d; \u201cI\u201d for \u201cinquisitive\u201d; \u201cG\u201d for \u201cgovernance\u201d; \u201cH\u201d for&#13;<br \/>\n  \u201chighly committed to grow\u201d; and \u201cT\u201d for \u201cteam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Tan has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefingasia.com\/article.php\/EAMs-And-Family-Offices-In-Singapore-Retain-Growth-Momentum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n  explained<\/a> to this news service before, the growth of Variable&#13;<br \/>\n  Capital Company (VCC) structures, and Singapore\u2019s rise as a major&#13;<br \/>\n  family offices hub, are significant developments. As reported&#13;<br \/>\n  only\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wealthbriefingasia.com\/article.php\/Singapore-Starts-Revised-Single_dash_Family-Office-Framework\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a&#13;<br \/>\n  few days ago<\/a>, MAS has announced the start of revised new&#13;<br \/>\n  rules governing single-family offices (SFOs), taking effect from&#13;<br \/>\n  15 June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among several topics discussed at the conference was&#13;<br \/>\n  intergenerational wealth transfer and the related assumptions&#13;<br \/>\n  that HNW families and their advisors might have. One discussion&#13;<br \/>\n  point was how wealth holders preferred to \u201cskip a generation\u201d and&#13;<br \/>\n  transfer some \u2013 not all \u2013 wealth straight away not to the&#13;<br \/>\n  generation immediately below, but to grandchildren.
