\n Singapore\u2019s central bank and principal regulator has gone live
\n with a new framework for single-family offices (SFOs) \u2013 a sector
\n that has grown rapidly in the Asian city-state, putting it in
\n competition with rival jurisdictions such as Hong Kong.<\/p>\n
\n Authority of Singapore<\/a> said the revised SFO framework took
\n effect from yesterday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n reflecting its growth as a wealth management and private banking
\n hub in recent decades. Growth has brought challenges: Singapore
\n has sought to clarify and strengthen rules for SFOs, as reported
\n
\n here<\/a>.
\n<\/p>\n
\n Existing SFOs have a year to transition to the new rules, MAS
\n said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n SFOs to establish operations in Singapore, whilst enhancing
\n overall monitoring of SFOs,\u201d the authority said in a

\n \u201cThe framework is structure-agnostic, thereby facilitating a
\n straight through class exemption from licensing for all
\n qualifying SFOs operating in Singapore. SFOs that meet the
\n requirements need only notify MAS of their operations and
\n maintain an account with a MAS-licensed bank. They will also have
\n to file a straightforward annual return with information on the
\n total assets under management and the name of its bank,\u201d it
\n said.<\/p>\n

\n creates work for advisors and enhances the positive spillovers to
\n the Singapore economy.
