The Place\u00a0<\/strong>Located on the first floor of\u00a0VivoCity,\u00a0the viral\u00a0hamburg\u00a0steak\u00a0Hikiniku\u00a0To\u00a0Come<\/strong>\u00a0has finally landed on our shores in Singapore.\u00a0The space\u00a0of\u00a0Hikiniku\u00a0To\u00a0Come Singapore at\u00a0VivoCity\u00a0is\u00a0designed around an intimate\u00a0counter-style configuration\u00a0where diners sit in a semi-circle surrounding the central open kitchen and smoking binchotan charcoal grills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The vibe is bustling, lively, and unpretentious. Do note that\u00a0the restaurant\u00a0operates\u00a0on a walk-in digital queue system and seats fill up fast.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Food<\/strong>\u00a0Simplicity is key here.\u00a0There is only one choice on the menu:\u00a0The\u00a0Hikiniku\u00a0To\u00a0Come Set\u00a0<\/strong>(S$27.90++). For this price, you get three freshly grilled beef patties, a bowl of miso soup, a raw egg, and free-flow Japanese rice.\u00a0Sides to add on if you wish include the likes of\u00a0Potato Salad with Minced Meat\u00a0<\/strong>(S$7.90) and\u00a0Raw Kimchi\u00a0<\/strong>(S$7.90).\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chefs serve the 100% Japanese beef patties one by one, fresh off the charcoal grill, directly onto your individual metal mesh to keep them piping hot. They recommend\u00a0having\u00a0each patty in three distinct ways:\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0first beef patty can be enjoyed\u00a0entirely on its own without adding any sauces. The crust has a smoky charcoal sear that\u00a0is\u00a0juicy\u00a0and\u00a0tender.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0second patty can be paired with\u00a0grated daikon radish and house-made ponzu vinegar. The acidity\u00a0of the vinegar sauce\u00a0cuts through the richness of the beef.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0third\u00a0patty\u00a0can be placed\u00a0over\u00a0the\u00a0fluffy Aomori rice,\u00a0and you can then\u00a0beat the raw egg\u00a0and\u00a0pour it over the top. It\u00a0is a\u00a0comforting finish\u00a0as the\u00a0last\u00a0of the trio of patties.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition, there is also an\u00a0array of condiments\u00a0available\u00a0such as oil-marinated green\u00a0chilli\u00a0and fried garlic flakes to customise\u00a0your own bites.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rants\u00a0<\/strong>The digital queue system means you cannot casually stroll in during peak hours without facing massive waiting times.\u00a0Expect some lingering smell from the\u00a0smoke\u00a0in\u00a0the air though\u00a0I think it\u00a0is still within\u00a0an acceptable\u00a0range.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Will I Return Again?\u00a0<\/strong>While S$27.90++ is not cheap for a minced beef meal,\u00a0the quality is honestly quite good.\u00a0It is worth trying at least once, provided you have the patience to brave the crowds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
