Experts recommend that children under 13 stay off it entirely and that parents think carefully about when a teen is ready. Apple’s line throughout was that every recommendation is adjustable, parents can raise or lower any allowance based on their own kid.

Bose added Schedules, which recognise that a school day and a weekend are not the same thing. Schedules and Time Allowances work together and are both fully customisable. Apple has spent the past few months responding to a slew of child-safety laws.

Wrapping up, Federighi pointed parents to a new, dedicated website that covers all the features and answers common questions.

Taken together, Apple’s WWDC 2026 announcements represent one of the company’s most ambitious pushes into family safety in a long while.

What stands out is not a single feature, but the overall strategy. Child Accounts, Ask to Browse, expanded Communication Safety, smarter Screen Time controls and new developer tools all work together as part of a broader ecosystem.

For parents who often feel caught between giving children access to technology and protecting them from its risks, Apple’s message is clear: digital independence should be earned gradually, not granted all at once.

As Federighi summed up during the presentation, the goal is to give parents powerful, easy-to-use tools to manage what children can see, who they can talk to, and when they have access.

In a year dominated by AI announcements, Apple’s most important update for many families may simply be helping children navigate the digital world a little more safely. But we will have to wait until Fall 2026 and the release of iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27 to really find out how effective Apple’s updates are.

For more on WWDC 2026, check out the articles below.

Apple used its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 to preview the biggest expansion of its parental controls in years, a set of tools arriving this…

[32
156,216,11232,397,18845
post-59515","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech-gadgets-reviews","tag-apple","tag-controls","tag-overhaul","tag-parental","tag-wwdc","wpcat-32-id
["GET
