His driving licence was suspended with immediate effect, said the police.<\/p>\n
The charges he faces in court include driving under the influence of etomidate, dangerous driving causing death, failing to render assistance after a fatal accident and removing a vehicle without police authority after an accident.<\/p>\n
If found guilty for driving under the influence of a drug, he faces a fine ranging from S$5,000 (US$3,900) to S$20,000 and up to two years’ jail. He may also be disqualified from driving all types of vehicles for at least five years.<\/p>\n
If convicted for dangerous driving causing death, he faces between two and eight years’ jail. He may also be banned from driving for at least 15 years.<\/p>\n
“Driving under the influence of drugs is an extremely dangerous and irresponsible act,” the police said.<\/p>\n
The authorities warned that they will take firm action against motorists who drive under the influence of drugs, psychoactive substances, intoxicating substances or alcohol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
