Instead of a keynote which focused on individual platform updates, Apple talked about features and optimisations in general and then dived right into the topic that was on everyone\u2019s mind: Apple Intelligence and Siri. If you have been following WWDC for a while, this can be very hard to digest. In many ways, Siri AI is the \u201cmore personalised Siri\u201d that we were shown two years ago at WWDC 2024 when Apple first announced Apple Intelligence. The crucial difference is that this time, we got to see live working demos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Immediately after the keynote, I was whisked away to a little auditorium where <b>Craig Federighi and his team explained in depth about Apple Intelligence, its relationship with Google Gemini, Siri AI, and how they all work<\/b>. The team then showed Siri AI in action. But given the rate at which AI has been progressing, it\u2019s what we\u2019ve come to expect from Apple and Siri AI. This is somewhat ironic because Apple has said in the past that it did not want to build a chatbot. Apple, it seems, has read my mind, and in that live session in that auditorium, they were adamant that one shouldn\u2019t view Siri AI as a chatbot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Instead, they said <b>Siri AI is deeply integrated into Apple\u2019s platforms and is\u00a0more accurate to view it\u00a0as an integral part of the overall platform experience<\/b>. Indeed, the fundamentals of Apple Intelligence are all Apple, and that includes Apple Intelligence\u2019s World Knowledge database. However, the models which are used, called Apple Foundation Models (AFM), were developed with Google.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">There are two ways to look at this. The first is that Google\u2019s involvement\u00a0only makes up\u00a0a small percentage of Apple Intelligence. One of the biggest ones for me was how Apple is making just about every aspect of its platforms run faster, smoother, and better. Here are the highlights that were mentioned in the keynote:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"_listElement_wioo3_107\">\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">iPhone and iPad apps will launch up to 30% faster<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">New photos appear up to 70% faster in the Photos app<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Up to 80% faster AirDrop transfers<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Up to 5x faster browsing and transferring files in iPadOS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Apart from the performance tweaks, another highlight that was intriguing to me was <b>smarter network transitions<\/b>.\u00a0iPhone will now more intelligently\u00a0switch\u00a0between Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.\u00a0This can be especially handy if you have Wi-Fi\u00a0deadspots\u00a0at home, because in iOS 28, your iPhone should now\u00a0know that\u00a0Wi-Fi\u00a0is weak\u00a0and switch to cellular automatically.\u00a0As someone who has a Wi-Fi deadspot in my bedroom, this sounds like a feature made for me.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"new-features-in-apps-enabled-by-apple-intelligence\" class=\"_subHeading1_1k87u_111 _base_1k87u_1\">New features in apps enabled by Apple Intelligence<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"_figure_wioo3_1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"_base_12j3k_1\" alt=\"Apple Intelligence Safari tab organisation\" loading=\"lazy\" sizes=\"auto\" width=\"930\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/hardwarezone\/b6d6da2aa555ca131f871dc316d77857f478a707c441ad3783999b58a9faf170?w=470&amp;q=85 470w,https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/hardwarezone\/b6d6da2aa555ca131f871dc316d77857f478a707c441ad3783999b58a9faf170?w=750&amp;q=85 750w,https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/hardwarezone\/b6d6da2aa555ca131f871dc316d77857f478a707c441ad3783999b58a9faf170?w=930&amp;q=85 930w\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/hardwarezone\/b6d6da2aa555ca131f871dc316d77857f478a707c441ad3783999b58a9faf170?w=930&amp;q=85\" style=\"--custom-aspect-ratio:1.7988394584139265;contain-intrinsic-size:930px 517px\"\/><figcaption class=\"_figureCaptions_wioo3_158\">\n<p class=\"_imageCaption_wioo3_165\">Apple Intelligence can keep your tab bar tidy by automatically group related tabs into groups.<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Apple<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Apple Intelligence will enable a bunch of new features in existing apps. Here are some of the ones that stood out the most:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"_listElement_wioo3_107\">\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\"><b>Tab management in Safari<\/b> \u2013 Apple Intelligence can analyse your tabs and help tame them by creating\u00a0groups based on topics.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\"><b>Automatically fixing passwords<\/b> \u2013 Using Apple Intelligence and Safari, the Passwords will be able to change your weak and\/or compromised passwords automatically for you.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\"><b>Easy creation of Shortcuts<\/b> \u2013 Shortcuts is a powerful tool, but it can be daunting to use for beginners. Apple Intelligence will let users create new Shortcuts using natural language. There will be a suite of new parental control features aimed at giving greater control and flexibility over what kids can and cannot do on their Apple devices.
