Mum is \u201cthe one with the vision. She\u2019s a classic example of what a CEO should be,\u201d Lian said. \u201cMy background is in engineering, so I\u2019m trying to build everything into systems: How can we make sure we build a structure we can scale? I feel everybody of my archetype needs somebody of my mum\u2019s archetype.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cThere\u2019s a lot I can learn from her about how to run a business, connect with the right folks, brand the company, and what to focus on.\u201d<\/p>\n
One thing Yeow has learned about her daughter through the journey is that she is \u201cvery resilient,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNicole handles objections or criticisms a lot better than I do.\u201d When difficult customers show up, \u201cIt really affects me. I have to step away. She says, \u2018Let me handle it.\u2019 And it seems to calm everything down. She\u2019ll tell me, \u2018It doesn\u2019t matter. Our conscience is clear. Let\u2019s move on.\u2019 That helps me to calm down. I never knew or saw that in her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lian mused: \u201cI was looking for a leader who was very visionary in the way they think. I\u2019ve only known my mum as someone who loves to eat, cook and host. I\u2019ve realised there are many things she does that give us very good leverage as a business in the long term, which I didn\u2019t see before. I look to her for a lot of strategic reasoning. I don\u2019t think that was what I saw in her before, in a mother-daughter dynamic. I see it now that she\u2019s my partner.\u201d<\/p>\n
