as Beijing launches a two-month campaign to crack down on \u201charmful, lowbrow and pirated\u201d content in the industry.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">The National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) said the clampdown would target eight types of content, including material harmful to children, sexually suggestive scenes, <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">wealth-flaunting<\/span>, \u201cdistorted\u201d views on marriage and relationships, superstitions, violent revenge, sensationalist titles and copyright violations.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The aim is to \u201cstandardise the creation and dissemination of short dramas and foster a healthier industry environment\u201d, the body announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Micro dramas \u2013 also known as short dramas or vertical dramas \u2013 are fast-paced scripted shows divided into dozens of episodes that typically last just a few minutes.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">Often shot in vertical format, the dramas <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">have exploded in popularity<\/span> in China over the past few years, with the industry\u2019s revenues soaring from less than 1 billion yuan (US$148 million) in 2020 to 100 billion yuan in 2025, according to a report by Peking University\u2019s National School of Development.<\/div>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">The industry <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">has also found success overseas<\/span>, with Chinese-backed platforms such as ReelShort emerging as early leaders and attracting massive audiences
