Apart from the subpixel arrangement, the monitor also uses a tandem RGB panel with four RGB layers (two blue, one green and one red).

The result is a peak brightness of up to 1,300 nits. The monitor is also VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 and Dolby Vision certified, has a 1500R curve, and features dual mode; 5K@165Hz or FHD@330Hz. As for connectivity, the monitor comes with DP 2.1 (UHBR20), HDMI 2.1 FRL with eARC, and a USB-C port capable of 90W PD. Dell has also thrown in a KVM switch, too.

Dell claims the AW3926QW as a first, particularly the first 5K OLED with an RGB stripe arrangement. And while that may be true, it still has to compete with a slew of other 5K gaming monitors out there, as that product category grows larger by the year.

LG’s UltraGear GX9 (read our review of that here) is one competitor which comes to mind, and despite the lack of the increasingly popular RGB subpixel layout, it’s certainly larger. The ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG (or its upcoming successor, the XG27JCEG) is another panel of the same resolution, but it’s smaller and uses an IPS panel.

As we noted in our UltraGear GX9 review, the hardware required for pushing the pixels, and at that refresh rate, means that the 5K class of monitors as a whole may not be for every gamer just yet. But such a high resolution, once consigned to the creative class with the Apple Studio Display, Samsung ViewFinity and the Dell 5K UltraSharp, has pretty much trickled to gaming use cases as well, so expect more of these monitors to crop up from gaming brands.

34-inch Alienware monitors

The Alienware 34 280Hz QD-OLED utilises a five-layer tandem RGB panel, an upgrade over the last generation.

Image: Dell.

Apart from the 39 5K OLED, Dell has also announced the Alienware 34 280Hz QD-OLED (AW3426DW). It’s the successor to the AW3425DW (claimed by Dell to be the world’s first QD-OLED gaming monitor), and brings a notable modern improvement to the previous generation, namely the use of the increasingly popular RGB stripe layout.

It also increases the number of layers in its tandem RGB panel from four to five – to be specific, it uses a QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel manufactured by Samsung. The additional RGB layer brings up the peak brightness from 1,000 to 1,300 nits, and the typical brightness from 250 to 300 nits.

Theoretically, it should also lead to a reduced likelihood of burn-in, as the use of more light-emitting layers means better power efficiency when pushing brightness.

Finally, an anti-reflective coating has also been added to reduce glare, while the refresh rate has been bumped up slightly, from 240Hz to 280Hz.

The Alienware 34 240Hz gaming monitor is no OLED, but Dell means for this model to be the more accessible option.

Image: Dell.

Rounding out the list of Alienware display announcements is the Alienware 34 240Hz (AW3426DWM). It’s a slightly less premium (or more ‘accessible’, depending on how you phrase it) monitor of the new lineup, as it trades the OLED for VA panel.

Still, it retains the 3440×1440 resolution of its more opulent sibling, and a slightly tighter curve angle of 1500R (the QD-OLED AW3426DW has an 1800R curve).

Pricing and Availability

Pricing hasn’t been announced for the three new monitors, but we have heard from sources they could be in the region of S$1,599-$1,799. This has to be taken with a large pinch of salt. That said, we do roughly know when they’ll be shipping in Singapore. The 39 5K OLED will release in late July 2026, while the 34 240Hz and 34 280Hz OLED will release in July and September 2026, respectively.

4K isn’t enough anymore, or at least that’s what companies are thinking in regards to their gaming displays.
