ROG has unveiled a new anniversary edition of its Xbox Ally X gaming handheld.<\/p>\n
Dubbed the ROG Xbox Ally X20<\/b> as part of the brand\u2019s 20th anniversary celebrations at Computex 2026, the limited-edition handheld features an updated OLED display and comes bundled with a pair of specially designed ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20<\/b> AR gaming glasses.<\/p>\n
At a glance, the biggest visual change is the handheld itself. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 adopts a translucent black chassis with gold internal accents, giving it a distinctly retro-tech appearance that ASUS says is meant to reflect the device\u2019s \u201ctrue collector\u2019s item\u201d status. The same black-and-gold anniversary design is carried over to the AR gaming glasses as well but the celebratory handheld sports more than just a visual makeover. Internally, there are purposeful quality-of-life upgrades too.<\/p>\n
Take for instance, the screen. For the first time, an Ally handheld now features an OLED<\/b> display. The new 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR<\/b> panel is slightly larger than the vanilla Xbox Ally X and supports a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, FreeSync Premium Pro, and up to 1,400 nits of peak HDR brightness. ASUS is also touting a rapid response time and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification \u2013 it\u2019s a huge step up from the LCD panels found in previous Ally models.<\/p>\n
There are also several smaller hardware refinements. The Xbox Ally X20 features TMR joysticks<\/b> designed to improve durability and reduce drift; while cooling and control elements have been improved based on Ally owners\u2019 feedback.<\/p>\n
Under the hood however, ROG has kept things the same \u2013 it won\u2019t be using the new Intel Arc G3<\/b> chips \u2013 for the simple reason of not having to redesign the internal circuitry and thermals. So the Xbox Ally X20 is still powered by AMD\u2019s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
